The Random – Wolverine 2, Marco Polo, Green Lantern, The Shadow, The Smurfs, De Niro in Dark Fields, Jackman in Selma, Rachel McAdams gets a Woody, Splice

Posted by LiveFor on March 4, 2010

– Screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (X-Men, The Usual Suspects) has finished his draft of the Wolverine sequel, which he began writing in August. Shooting is currently expected to commence in January of 2011. It is going to be set in Japan and no word yet on who will direct although Hugh Jackman will be back as Logan. I just hope the claws are better than the first film.

– Francis Lawrence (“I Am Legend,” “Constantine) will direct a feature about Marco Polo for Warner Bros. Pictures reports Variety – More fantasy/adventure epic than serious biopic drama, the film will be most set in “the Orient of our imagination”

– Test shooting on the Green Lantern has started shooting in New Orleans. Apparantly it involves a stunt car.

– David Slade (30 Days of Night) could direct the Sam Raimi produced film adaptation of classic pulp character The Shadow at 20th Century Fox reports Latino Review.

– Dr Horrible himself, Neil Patrick Harris, is to be the live action star in The Smurfs movie. I feel slightly more interested in the project…but only a little.

Robert De Niro joins Bradley Cooper in The Dark Fields. The film is about ‘a down-and-out Gotham writer (Cooper) who comes into possession of a designer drug that gives him newfound intelligence and success‘. According to Variety, De Niro will be playing the role of the brilliant financial mogul that’s chasing after Bradley Cooper’s character. The film will begin shooting in May in Philadelphia.

– Hugh Jackman will be starring in Selma to be directed by Lee Daniels (Precious). Deadline previously reported that Robert De Niro was on board to play Alabama Governor George Wallace in the film, which is about the historic march from Selma to the state capital in Montgomery.

– Rachel McAdams has signed on to co-star in Woody Allen’s next project. Production of the still untitled film is to begin this summer, likely with a 2011 release date in mind. Owen Wilson and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy are also starring in it.

– Vincenzo Natali’s Sci-fi creature feature, Splice, is to be released on 4th June. Looks like the studio are pushing this to be a big Summer film.

UPDATED: The Green Hornet Lives and Adam Sandler could be joining him

Posted by LiveFor on January 28, 2009

There was a rumour knocking about the other day that The Green Hornet was being put to sleep by Sony.

However, a recent update from the film’s writer and star, Seth Rogen, shows that rumor is not true.
Rogen contacted HitFix and told them that Sony still has every intention of making it.
“[The studio heads] have every intention on making it, and assuming we’re able to hire a new director in the upcoming weeks, which seems like a distinct possibility, it should still hit the release date,”
Not only is he starring in the film and co-writing it, but he’s also producing, which means he is in the know as to what will happen.
So it looks like Sony is still going ahead with The Green Hornet and they’re trying to find a new director. And according to AICN, it looks like Stephen Chow also still remains attached as Kato.
UPDATE: The LA Times says that Adam Sandler will be taking on “a brief but key role in the movie as a certain surprise superhero.” I’ve no idea who that could be. Maybe The Shadow or Doc Savage maybe?

The Shadow knows when the remake will be

Posted by LiveFor on January 22, 2009

I’m a big fan of all things pulp and The Shadow is very much pulp. I love the old novels and the whole mythos around him. I even enjoyed The Shadow film starring Alec Baldwin. Therefore when it was mentioned a while back that there could be a new take on The Shadow heading to the big screens I was all ready to don my scarf and floppy hat and head down to the local picture house. Then it all went quiet.

Now MTV have some news on what could be happening with the new version.

Producer Michael Uslan’s had mentioned that he’d be offering fans a take on the character that’s more true to his roots. Then, when word got out that Sam Raimi was onboard as a fellow producer, fans knew this vision of The Shadow would be vastly different from the 1994 offering.

“I think the one thing going in is we all see The Shadow as more of a force of nature than a specific person in a secret identity,” Uslan told MTV in an exclusive interview. “The Shadow may actually be many people.”

“We’ve gone back to the pulp roots, the comic book roots of The Shadow, with a dash of the radio roots,” added Uslan. “But we’ve deeply ensconced ourselves in the world of pulps and comics.”

However, looks like it will still take a while before it goes into production.

“Sam [Raimi] and Josh Donen are my partners and we have it set up Sony, and a wonderful writer named Siavash Farahani who has worked for me before is writing the screenplay,” Uslan said. “It’s coming along great, we’re very excited about it. You know, it takes time to nurture these things. You probably know all the stories. The first ‘Batman’ film took me 10 years to get made.”
