Mission: Impossible IV – Brad Bird is almost on board

Posted by LiveFor on April 9, 2010

Vulture have the news that Brad Bird (Ratatouille, The Incredibles) is in final negotiations with Paramount Pictures to direct Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible IV.

It looks as if the only problem could be Bird’s asking price. Animated projects take three years of work meaning he gets paid a lot more money. Plus he’s won two Oscars and that would whack his asking price up again. Since, Mission: Impossible IV will take less time, Paramount hopes Bird will reduce his asking price.

I’m still not sure how well Bird’s skills at directing an animated movie will translate to live action. At the very least it should make interesting viewing.

Mission: Impossible IV is due out on 27th May 2011 and J J Abrams is producing.

Mission Impossible 4 – Tom Cruise is back

Posted by LiveFor on February 10, 2010

It wasn’t that long ago that J J Abrams mentioned he would produce another Mission Impossible film. He directed the third one which I thought was great as it had the whole team thing going for it.

Today, according to Deadline Hollywood, Paramount Pictures signed the deal with Tom Cruise to return as Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible 4. Cruise will produce the film with J.J. Abrams.

Screenwriters Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec who wrote Alias are already attached to write the script. The plan is for this to be Cruise’s next film and start shooting by summer for a 2011 release.

I really hope the team thing going for the third one as the second one was dreadful. Are you glad Cruise is back for MI4 or would you have liked to see a new team? Who do you want to direct it?

This message will self destruct at some point in the future.

Knight & Day – Trailer starring Cruise and Cameron”I kill myself and then her!”

Posted by LiveFor on December 22, 2009

Here is the trailer for the Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz spy film, Knight and Day, and I really like the look of it. Sure it has a hint of True Lies, a bit of Mr and Mrs Smith, with a touch of Mission Impossible thrown in for good measure. Yet you know what, Tom Cruise sells it for me. Looks as if he is having a lot of fun here and seems to be carrying on the the comedic chops he had in Tropic Thunder.

An action-comedy centered on a fugitive couple (Cruise and Diaz) on a glamorous and sometimes deadly adventure where nothing and no one – even themselves – are what they seem. Amid shifting alliances and unexpected betrayals, they race across the globe, with their survival ultimately hinging on the battle of truth vs. trust.

Cruise plays a man of mystery who links up with Diaz. They become fugitives, there are betrayals and shifting alliances all around them, and they must figure out whether to be guided by truth or trust.

Directed by James Mangold the film is out on 2nd July 2010

Amid shifting allegiances and unexpected betrayals, they are swept up in a whirlwind of globe-hopping adventure and world-changing secrets.”

Johnny Depp may be The Tourist. Alfonso Cuaron may direct.

Posted by LiveFor on November 5, 2009

jdeppThe Tourist is a remake of the 2005 French spy thriller Anthony Zimmer and it has been in development for quite a while now.

Originally Charlize Theron and Tom Cruise were going to be in it but both eventually dropped out. As of a few weeks ago, Angelina Jolie was attached to star along with Sam Worthington.

However, THR have the news that Sam Worthington and director Florian von Donnersmark have left the film and there are already some top names in line to replace them.

It was reported that Johnny Depp was in negotiations to replace Worthington, while director Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men) is in talks to replace von Donnersmarck. Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) is writing the script.

The film centers on a female Interpol agent who manages to ensnare an American tourist in Paris to help her track down an elusive criminal, who was also her former lover.

The way actors keep changing on this film I wouldn’t hold your breath over Depp definitely being in it, but it would be cool if he was.

Angelina Jolie takes over from Charlize Theron in The Tourist

Posted by LiveFor on October 12, 2009

Angelina_Jolie_21Angelina Jolie is in talks to replace Charlize Theron in the Spyglass thriller The Tourist, according to The Risky Biz Blog.

Jolie has just finished work on the spy movie Salt. It looks as if she is on an espionage roll at the moment.

Theron has been long attached to the project, which is now also seeking a director, as Bharat Nalluri (Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day) just left the project last week.

The Tourist is a remake of the French thriller “Anthony Zimmer” from 2005. It centers on an American tourist who, on behalf of Interpol, goes undercover to entrap a former lover who’s a suspected global criminal. It follows in the long tradition of innocents caught up in shady activities abroad that dates back to Hitchcock (“The Man Who Knew Too Much”), Polanski (“Frantic”) and beyond, and a theme that also has contemporary echoes with “Taken” this past year.

Tom Cruise had been attached at an earlier point for the lead male role, but Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation, Avatar, Clash of the Titans) will now play the part.

Maggie Grace joins Diaz and Cruise in Wichita

Posted by LiveFor on August 28, 2009

maggie-graceMaggie Grace (Lost, Taken) is in negotiations to join Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz in Fox’s untitled Wichita project, a spy thriller directed by James Mangold.

The project centers on a lonely woman (Diaz) whose seemingly harmless blind date suddenly turns her life upside-down when a super spy (Cruise) takes her on a violent worldwide journey to protect a powerful battery that holds the key to an infinite power source….yes that is apparantly the Saturday morning cartoon plot they are using as hokey as it sounds…yes I did just use the word hokey. Let’s move on shall we.

Grace is playing Diaz’s sister, who is getting married, excited that Diaz will take the place of their late father and walk her down the aisle.

Grace has been busy since starring as Liam Neeson’s daughter in “Taken,” which has made more than $224 million worldwide.

She recently wrapped playing the female lead opposite Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker in Sony’s “The Experiment” and is shooting “Flying Lessons.” The indie is being exec produced by Mark Johnson.
