If Buzz Lightyear was real

Posted by LiveFor on February 25, 2010

How good is this? A great piece of art work by an artist called Raoni Nery. A great look at what Buzz Lightyear from Pixar’s Toy Story would look like if he was a person.

Posted by LiveFor on May 11, 2009

– Disney’s 3D versions of Pixar’s Toy Story and Toy Story 2 will premiere at the 66th annual Venice Film Festival. The films will surround the Golden Lion award ceremony at the Palazzo del Cinema at Venice Lido, where the Venice Film Festival will give lifetime achievement awards to the Pixar aniamtors.

NY Times have a big feature on Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds that has this interesting piece of news – “Not to mention a shelved subplot about African-American soldiers stuck behind enemy lines. ‘I have a half-written prequel ready to go if this movie’s a smash,’ he said.”

– Wes Anderson’s animated adaptation of Fantastic Mr. Fox will be released under Fox’s Fox Searchlight “indie”-focused label. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on November 13th in the States, but on October 22nd/23rd in UK and Russia.

Jason Patric (The Lost Boys, Narc) may be the bad guy in the comic book adaption of The Losers. The good guys currently consist of Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the team leader, Zoe Saldana, Iris Elba and Columbus Short.

– Matthew Goode (“Brideshead Revisited,” “Watchmen”) has joined the cast of the dramedy Cemetery Junction for Sony Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter. “Cemetery” takes a period look at a group of twenty-something men working at the Prudential insurance company in the 1970’s and their relationships with each other as well as the women in their lives. Goode will play Mike, a go-getter dating his boss’ daughter. Ralph Fiennes, Felicity Jones, Christian Cooke, Tom Hughes, Jack Doolan and Ricky Gervais star.

– Antonio Banderas will star in the neo-noir detective thriller The Big Bang for says Variety.
Banderas stars as an L.A. private detective who’s hired to find a missing stripper. The trail leads to the New Mexico desert. There the private eye finds a trail of bodies and contends with a brutal Russian boxer, three LAPD detectives and an aging billionaire looking to perfect the nuclear physics equivalent of the Big Bang.

– James McTeigue (“V for Vendetta,” “Ninja Assassin”) is tipped to be helming the upcoming Conan the Barbarian reboot film for Nu-Image/Millenium as Brett Ratner has left the project.

Fast and Furious screenwriter Chris Morgan tells MTV News that all the talk of another sequel is not just true, but things are moving quickly. “It seems like there will definitely be another one. I just got out of a lunch with Universal, just pitching the story around. We were figuring out if we do another one, and what it would be. It has to come from the characters, so where are these characters after this film – what are they doing?” says Morgan.

– CBS Films has acquired screen rights to Johanna Stokes’s comic book mini-series Station reports Variety. In the miniseries, five nations have sent their finest astronauts to operate Earth’s first multinational space station, but when one turns up dead, the remaining personnel race against time to discover if it was sabotage, an accident or murder.

– Vin Diesel, director John Singleton and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura are teaming for a film adaptation of the video game The Wheelman for Paramount Pictures reports Variety.
Diesel produced, voiced and had his likeness used in the game about an expert driver who comes out of retirement to protect a woman from his past.

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland logo, the Tron logo and The King of the Elves based on a Philip K Dick short story

Posted by LiveFor on April 16, 2009

Disney had a presentation at ShoWest recently and had a whole host of logos and release dates on show. Thanks to Pam for sending me the above pic.

Of interest is the logo for Alice in Wonderland in the center along with Toy Story 3. The new Tron (was Tron 2) logo in the 2011/2012 column.
Don’t think I have heard anything about the Newt, Rapunzel and The Bear and the Bow, but they all sound good. King of the Elves looks very interesting as, according to IMDB, it is based on a story by Philip K Dick. Wasn’t aware of any such story, but a quick look on Wikipedia tells me the following:

Based on Philip K. Dick‘s 1953 short story fantasy King of the Elves, the film is about a band of elves and one dwarf living in the modern-day Mississippi Delta who name a local man their king after he helps save them from an evil troll

Sounds cool.

Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter and early shots of Toy Story 3 shown to Disney Stock Holders

Posted by LiveFor on March 12, 2009

Lucky people who own stock in Disney got a couple of sneak peaks at upcoming features according to Dark Horizons.

A first real glimpse of Johnny Depp’s look as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s upcoming “Alice in Wonderland” kicked off the Walt Disney Company’s annual shareholders meeting on Tuesday.

The Carpetbagger had a description: “Victorian top hat, crimped hair that sticks straight out, and swirl of brightly colored make-up on his eyes, cheeks and lips that resembled the blur of a pinwheel blowing in the breeze”.

A 3-D screening of “Up” along with early footage of “Toy Story 3” which was deemed “jaw-droppingly good” by an attendee were screened as well during a visit to Pixar’s corporate campus in Emeryville on Monday.

I can’t wait to see a photo to go with that description of Johnny Depp’s character.

The picture I used on this post is just one I found on Google. Nothing to do with Depp’s version of the character.

The Wilhelm Scream

Posted by LiveFor on December 2, 2008

ABC News explores the history of the Wilhelm scream, the familiar screech heard in more than 100 films and TV shows, from Them! to Star Wars to Toy Story, since it was first recorded in 1951. The source of the scream remains a mystery, but it’s likely it came from Sheb “Flying Purple People Eater” Wooley, who acted in Distant Drums, the first flick to feature the sound. From ABC New:

The scream was recorded in 1951 for “Distant Drums,” a western directed by Raoul Walsh and starring Gary Cooper as a captain who leads a group of soldiers on a mission to defend 19th century Florida settlers from Seminole Indians.

During one scene, a soldier is bitten and dragged underwater by an alligator and he screams the whole way down. The soldier may have died, but a new star was born.

After “Distant Drums,” the scream stayed quiet for a couple of years until 1953, when a soldier named Pvt. Wilhelm (played by Ralph Brooks in “The Charge at Feather River”) got shot in the leg by an arrow. Sound editors needed a good scream and decided to reuse the one from “Distant Drums.”

In fact, the scream worked so well, it became a go-to for sound editors. The blood-curdling shriek was heard in “Them!” in 1954, “Land of the Pharaohs” in 1955 and “The Green Berets” in 1963, without anyone catching on.

It has also now made it’s way into video games. Below is a compilation of the scream from various films.

Have you heard the scream anywhere else?
