The Killer Inside Me got slammed at Sundance but gets picked up despite the violence

Posted by LiveFor on February 2, 2010

Michael Winterbottom’s adaption of The Killer Inside Me stars Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson, Ned Beatty, Bill Pullman and Elias Koteas. I’ve been following it for a while now and it debuted at Sundance. Here’s the plot:

Deputy Sheriff Lou Ford is a pillar of the community in his small Texas town, patient and thoughtful. Some people think he’s a little slow and boring but that’s the worst they say about him. But then nobody knows about what Lou calls his ’sickness’. It nearly got him put away when he was younger, but his adopted brother took the rap for that. Now the sickness that has been lying dormant for a while is about to surface again – and the consequences are brutal and devastating.

Now reading that you would expect something dark, brutal and violent. Guess what? It sounds as if it is exactly that and yet it got absolutely slammed at Sundance for its graphic violence. However, reading between the lines I gather it is a good film, but the extreme violence (apparantly Jessica Alba’s characer gets beaten up so badly you can see her teeth through her cheek – Two Face anyone?) turned many off.

However, IFC Films this weekend paid $1.5 million to distribute The Killer Inside Me in the U.S. so it does appear that we’ll be able to watch the film. To be honest it sounds as if it is just extremely faithful to the novel by Jim Thompson.

Other films that found buyers at Sundance 2010 include:
Buried (Ryan Reynolds trapped alive in a big box)
The Kids Are All Right starring Annette Bening and Julianne Moore as lesbians
Twelve with Chace Crawford, Emma Roberts and 50 Cent
Hesher starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.

International buyers are looking at other films from the festival including:
Happy Thank You More Please from Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother)
Catfish, a documentary about an online relationship
Blue Valentine with Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams
Splice the sci-fi film by Vincenzo Natali.

Lots of good films heading our way.

Tucker and Dale vs Evil – Promo Trailer

Posted by LiveFor on November 14, 2009

Tucker and Dale vs Evil is a genre-bending indie horror comedy. Tyler Labine stars as Dale alongside Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Dollhouse) as Tucker, two good-natured hillbillies mistakenly accused of being psycho killers by a group of college kids camping at the same lake where the hillbillies have just acquired a dilapidated cabin as their “summer home.”

The Random – Green Hornet, Spider-Man 4, The Special Relationship, Michael Moore, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, 100 Bullets, Ant-Man

Posted by LiveFor on July 9, 2009

Cameron Diaz has been offered and is apparently in early talks for the female lead role in The Green Hornet for Sony Pictures says Entertainment Weekly. Michel Gondry is set to direct the film based on a script by actor/comedian Seth Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg.

Gary Ross (Dave, Big, Seabiscuit, Pleasantville) is re-writing the script for Spider-Man 4 says Variety. James Vanderbilt penned the original script which was then rewritten by David Lindsay-Abaire. The project will go into production early next year for release May 2011.

MTV Splashpage translates a report from omelete.com in which Edgar Wright reveals he is still quite interested in making an Ant-Man film. He completed work on the first draft before Scott Pilgrim vs. the World built steam. “I’m very happy with the first draft and we need to get back into business,” he tells Omelete.

Hope Davis is set to play former First Lady and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in HBO Films/BBC Films’ The Special Relationship says The Hollywood Reporter. The story chronicles the unique and sometimes turbulent political relationship between newly installed British Prime Minister Tony Blair (Michael Sheen) and U.S. President Bill Clinton (Dennis Quaid) in the late 1990s. Julianne Moore was originally set to play Hillary but has since pulled out due to a scheduling conflict with The Kids Are All Right.

Michael Moore’s new global financial crisis documentary has now got a name – Capitalism: A Love Story reports Variety. The film takes a look at “the disastrous impact that corporate dominance and out-of-control profit motives have on the lives of Americans and citizens of the world.” The film hits theaters on October 2nd.

In a story from The Hollywood Reporter Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk will be co-starring in Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. The film, directed by Eli Craig, is being called “a genre-bending indie horror comedy.” Labine will play the role of Dale and Tudyk will be Tucker. These characters are two happy go lucky hillbillies who are mistakenly accused of being killers. Also starring in the film is Katrina Bowen (30 Rock).

100 Bullets creator Brian Azzarello teases MTV Splashpage with the possibility of a television series or movie? “That’s all I’ll say. Television … or maybe something that’s not just TV,” he quickly said.
