Jonah Hex – A clear look at Josh Brolin’s scarred face

Posted by LiveFor on April 20, 2010

It has been an age since we saw anything of the Jonah Hex movie. Adapted from the comic book character this is the first proper look of Josh Brolin as the bounty hunter. I must say he looks a lot like the comic version which is very cool. No sign of Megan Fox though.

We will finally get a trailer for Jonah Hex that will premiere on the SyFy channel the night of April 29th. Then it will be attached to A Nightmare on Elm Street screenings.

What do you think of Brolin’s look?

Gunless – Feature trailer for the Paul Gross Canadian comedy Western

Posted by LiveFor on March 1, 2010

I’ve been following this one for a while as I always enjoy a western and Paul Gross was cool in Due South. Now the full trailer is out.

When notorious American gunslinger, The Montana Kid, staggers into the tiny Canadian hamlet of Barclay’s Brush, life for the town’s 17 inhabitants is about to get exciting. The Kid immediately gets into an unfortunate altercation with Jack, the town’s surly blacksmith, which leads to the The Kid ‘calling him out’ for some good old frontier justice – a showdown. But in a place totally ill prepared to deal with a classic gun fight and without a single working pistol to be found, adhering to the code of the American Wild West may prove difficult.

Not able to let go of the ‘code’, The Kid remains stuck in Barclay’s Brush, getting drawn into a strange world of eccentric rituals and characters; among them Jane, a smart sassy woman who becomes his only hope of finding a way out… or perhaps his only reason for staying…

It stars Paul Gross, Callum Keith Rennie, Sienna Guillory, Dustin Milligan and Tyler Mane.

It is written and directed by Canadian filmmaker William Phillips. Due out in Canada on 30th April.

Gunsmoke – The studio wants Pitt

Posted by LiveFor on February 5, 2010

Back in August last year was the small piece of news that the old TV show, Gunsmoke, was being made into a feature film. It was a little story, just the beginning of a project, although big for the fans of the original show.

Turns out that the studio, CBS Films, want this to be a very big deal as it looks as if they are after some big names to fill those boots. The original show starred James Arness, but a number of names have been mentioned to be in the running for the role of Marshal Matt Dillon.

The LA Times have said that Brad Pitt is the top contender and he has the benefit of having done a spot on turn in the Western The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Another name on the list is Ryan Reynolds who is going on to bigger and better things with Green Lantern.

Time to say “Whoa!” a moment as all of this is just a list. As far as I can tell there is nothing definite and the film still has to find a director.

Personally I think they should go totally meta with it and get the actor Matt Dillon to play Marshall Matt Dillon. Imagine the punnage and funny looks to the camera. Oh the comedy. No, just me. Let us move quickly on.

Dillon is the Western hero charged with maintaining law and order in a period Kansas town filled with colorful vagrants, misfits and desperadoes. He carries on in these adventures with the help of town physician Doc Adams and tavern owner Miss Kitty Russell.

A few other actors are apparently in the running, but I feel this could be a lot of talk from the studio at the moment to drum up interest for what they want to be a big film.

Gregory Poirier (National Treasure: Book of Secrets) has written a draft of the Gunsmoke feature script, which the studio is said to like.

CBS Films wants to contemporize the look and feel of Gunsmoke while maintaining the period American West setting. I’ve never seen the original so I am not too sure what the set up of the show was like or what to expect with a remake.

Are you a fan of the original series? Do you want to see a film based on it and who do you want to play Marshall Matt Dillon.

The Last Rites of Ransom Pride – Cult Western in the making?

Posted by LiveFor on February 3, 2010

No matter how long I do this site I am still surprised by the amount of films that slip by. Case in point is a cool sounding Western called The Last Rites of Ransom Pride. It has probably been knocking around on the web for a while now, but I’d not heard of it until now. Twitch had a photo of Peter Dinklage and that’s what got me onto it.

What makes it cool? A number of thing – The first is that it is a Western and stars Kris Kristofferson (Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid, Convoy, Blade) and Peter Dinklage (Living in Oblivion, Elf, Saint John of Las Vegas) with a pair of shotguns. Both very cool actors in my book. Plus Dinklage’s character is called The Dwarf

The second is the plot – The outlaw Juliette Flowers battles a murderous Reverend, posse of bounty hunters and a vicious Mexican Bruja to bring the body of her dead lover home to Glory, Texas.

Nothing says cool better than a murderous Reverend and a posse of bounty hunters. Cote De Pablo (NCIS) is also down to play the Bruja or Witch.

Of course, just because it sounds cool doesn’t mean it will be cool. All depends up the final viewing and I will try my best to have a watch of this sometime soon. Anyone over at Nomadic Pictures Entertainment want to send me a screener of it?

Directed by Tiller Russell it also stars Scott Speedman, Dwight Yoakam, Lizzy Caplan (True Blood), Jon Foster, Jason Priestley (Tombstone, Beverley Hills 90210), Earl Brown.

I apologise for the abundant usage of the word cool in this post. You all cool with that?

Check out the official site.

Gunless – Canadian Western comedy starring the bloke from Due South

Posted by LiveFor on January 5, 2010

I do like the look of this even though it is very much a teaser trailer.

The Coens True Grit is casting the female lead

Posted by LiveFor on December 19, 2009

The Coen Brothers adaption of the novel, True Grit, already has Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin involved. Not a bad cast for a Western. However, they’ve now opened casting for the female lead over on truegritcasting.com.

Here’s the character description:

Fourteen year old Mattie is a simple, tough as nails, young woman in post-Civil War Arkansas. Her unusually steel nerves and straightforward manner are often surprising to those she meets. She possessed plenty of true grit and determination. Enough so that she insists on going with 2 marshals to hunt down the killer of her father. We are looking for a girl who’s tough, strong, and tells it like it is. Must be able to portray Caucasian.

To audition, you can attend an open call or tape yourself. If you apply or know anyone who does let me know.
