Harold Ramis chatted with Heeb Magazine about among other things, the plans for and prospective timeline of Ghostbusters 3. Here’s what he had to say:
Something’s going to happen. Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel. We’ll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future … GB3 is progressing with plans to shoot next summer and release in 2011 … Oh, and I have two one-of-a-kind Ghostbuster yarmulkes sent by fans.
I like the mention of using the previous Ghostbusters in a Doc Brown kind of way in the new film. I could see that working rather well and could also mean they get in on the action.
Sony has recruited Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg “The Office” writer-producers to work on a new installment of the 1980s film series that starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Harold Ramis.
The original filmmakers, including director Ivan Reitman, and cast are aware of the project and involved in its development. Some original cast members might be involved, but it looks as if it will focus on the next generation of ‘busters. Possibly Peter Venkman’s son, Oscar.
