Riddick – Official synopsis for Vin’s new film

Posted by LiveFor on May 7, 2010

It looks as if they have seen sense and are calling the third film Riddick instead of the dreadful Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking.

Now STYD have the official synopsis for David Twohy’s third go at directing Vin Diesel. It sounds as if it could be excellent and sticking with the true nature of the character.

Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick (Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.

Works for me. What do you think about the plot?

Neuromancer gets a director

Posted by LiveFor on May 7, 2010

Vincenzo Natali, director of Splice, is to direct the big-screen adaptation of cyberpunk author William Gibson’s 1984 classic Neuromancer.

According to THR Joseph Khan was previously down to direct the Gibson novel, with Hayden Christensen starring, before Natali stepped in. Not sure if Christensen is still attached. Personally I hope not.

“Neuromancer” tells the story of a washed-up computer hacker hired by a mysterious employer to work on the ultimate hack and was basically one of the novels that started the whole cyberpunk thing.

Word on the street is that Natali’s Splice is pretty cool and he may well be the right choice for Neuromancer.

What do you think of the choice and who do you want to see star in it?

UPDATED: Possible Cloverfield sequel / prequel trailer attached to Iron Man 2?

Posted by LiveFor on May 5, 2010

UPDATE: Vulture spoke to Abrams himself, who said that the trailer has nothing to do with Cloverfield.

“You have to check [out the trailer],” he said. “But it has nothing whatsoever to do with Cloverfield, despite your expert reporting.”

Iron Man 2 has been out for a while over here, but is released in the USA on 7th May. News is out that J J Abrams has a top secret teaser trailer attached to it for something codenamed Super 8.

Word on the street is that not even the people filming it knew what it was all about as Abrams told them it was for a new sex comedy he was working on.

If you remember the Cloverfield teaser trailer was first shown unannounced before Transformers and I personally thought all the teaser stuff about Cloverfield was actually better than the final film. Still amazing in this day and age that they can still keep a film super top secret like this.

Vulture have more on what the trailer will show so spoilers ahead.

Insiders familiar with the trailer tell us that it shows a bunch of kids who are shooting a movie with a Super 8 camera in the seventies or eighties. When they develop the film, they notice that there’s an alien creature in the frame. Our sources also say that Super 8 is absolutely connected to 2008’s Cloverfield (possibly a prequel, but not a sequel).

There you have it, if it is true. Anyone fancy a Slusho?

If you are in the States and get to see the trailer let us all know what it is like in the comments below.

District 10 – Is sequel to Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi film underway?

Posted by LiveFor on April 26, 2010

District 9 was one of the highlights of 2009 for me. Great idea, great production and Sharlto Copley was brill in the lead. I know some people didn’t like it but each to their own. I was curious as to whether we would see any sequel to it, but director Neill Blomkamp had said that he was going to be working on different things before he came back to it.

Looks like that could have been misdirection on his part as MarketSaw have news that a sequel is in pre-production (their sources could be wrong, but they are usually on the ball).

DISTRICT 10 (Production title at least) is now in pre-production with filming to start in the October time frame this year. Shooting locations will be South Africa once again as well as New Zealand. There has been no word on whether it will be shot in S3D or not as of yet. You will be the first to know! Peter Jackson is again producing the sequel with Neill Blomkamp directing.

I do hope they are working on a sequel as I am itching to see what happens when the ship comes back.

The same article also mentions that the adaption of Philip Reeves Mortal Engines will be in 3D. Great book. Hope they don’t mess that up.

Do you want a sequel? What do you want to see in it?

UPDATED: Ridley Scott talks about the Alien prequel – Space Jockey, Giger and more

Posted by LiveFor on April 23, 2010

If you didn’t know (where have you been), Ridley Scott is returning to the daddy of all space horror films with his prequel to Alien.

Until now we knew nothing about the plot and it was all rumours and guesses. Now Scott has had a chat with MTV about what, and who, we will see in the film. Yes that does include the Space Jockey.

“It’s set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney [Weaver’s character Ellen Ripley], it’s fundamentally about going out to find out ‘Who the hell was that Space Jockey?’ The guy who was sitting in the chair in the alien vehicle — there was a giant fellow sitting in a seat on what looked to be either a piece of technology or an astronomer’s chair. Remember that?”

“[The film] is about the discussion of terraforming — taking planets and planetoids and balls of earth and trying to terraform, seed them with the possibilities of future life,” he explained. “Weyland hasn’t joined Yutani yet, so they go and see Weyland,” Scott said.

“Well, the main character [in the prequel] will be a woman, yeah,” he revealed. “We’re thinking it could go down that route, yeah. When I started the original ‘Alien,’ Ripley wasn’t a woman, it was a guy. During casting, we thought, ‘Why don’t we make it a woman?'”

Turns out he thinks the original Alien designs are looking a little worn out, but Scott is already giving serious thought to collaborating with Giger again on a redesign.

“Yeah, he’s still around. Once I get more serious and get going, and the big wheels start turning, we’ll certainly talk. And maybe we’ll come up with something completely different.”

Sounds promising doesn’t it and if it has just half the greatness of the original then we are in for a treat. Made up we will find out more about the Space Jockey.

UPDATE: Collider spoke to Ridley Scott who confirmed that there would be two prequels and that he would be shooting in 3D.

What do you want to see in an Alien prequel? Will Lance Henriksen be in it as a another Wayland character?

Black Sky – Band of Brothers vs Cthulhu in Templesmith’s animated film

Posted by LiveFor on April 21, 2010

“World War Squid.” This sounds right up my street. Comic book artist Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night, Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse, Fell) is working on an “Illustrated Film” the goal of which, is to meld the cinematic storytelling style of comics with good audio/voice acting & some animation/CGI in places. That in itself sounds interesting, but wait until you get to what Black Sky is all about. Here is what he had to say on his website:

All I can say is sort of Band Of Brothers…but with SQUID. ( Well, Cthulhu-ish ideas and my love of all things tentactular ) Yes, it’s a war comic. Want to get all emotional and down and dirty with it. Not exactly comedy in the vein of Wormwood… It’s post apocalyptic. I deals with a small group of soldiers, as the human race is reduced to relatively low tech solutions to claw back their planet, the new religion that drives them on to this goal in the face of hopelessness…and all the stuff that comes from such things. Many horrific and hopefully, some touching “tales from the front” in many ways. And of course, they’ll end up being players in a major event that may define the now generations long conflict. Lots of action but with an actual point to it I hope, rather than an excuse to simply draw “cool” things.

Humans are such fragile things.

Squid, not so much.

No news on when we will see it, but anyone else looking forward to it?
