The Special Relationship – Dennis Quaid as Bill Clinton

Posted by LiveFor on May 7, 2010

The Special Relationship is an American/British political film directed by Richard Loncraine from a screenplay by Peter Morgan. It stars Michael Sheen as Tony Blair and Dennis Quaid and Bill Clinton.

It’s the third film in Morgan’s informal Blair trilogy, which dramatizes the political career of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Tony Blair (1997-2007), following The Deal (2003) and The Queen (2006), both directed by Stephen Frears.

The first drafts of The Special Relationship dealt with Blair’s working relationships with Presidents of the United States Bill Clinton (1993-2001) and George W. Bush (2001-2009). But Morgan excised the Bush scenes from subsequent drafts because he found the Blair/Clinton dynamic more interesting. He intended to make his directorial debut with the film but backed out a month before filming began and was replaced by Loncraine. The film is produced by Rainmark Films and backed by HBO Films and BBC Films.

The film also stars Hope Davis as Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Helen McCrory as Cherie Blair. Principal photography on locations in and around London, England ran from July 20 to September 4, 2009. The film will be broadcast on HBO in the United States on May 29, 2010. Optimum Releasing will distribute it in cinemas in the United Kingdom on May 7, 2010.

Super 8 – Teaser for J J Abrams’ secret film leaks out

Posted by LiveFor on May 7, 2010

Yesterday there was the description of the teaser trailer for J J Abrams’ non-Cloverfield related film, Super 8. It was showing before Iron Man 2 in the States and, unsurprisingly, bootleg copies have surfaced on the Web. Not sure how long it will be live, but here it is for your viewing pleasure.

What did you think of that?

There is also a website for it, but not much on it – although if it is anything like the Cloverfield viral sites it may lead to more things. Let me know what you find out.

J J Abram’s Super 8 – A description of the teaser trailer is out

Posted by LiveFor on May 6, 2010

It turns out that the Super 8 film, that has a teaser showing with Iron Man 2 in the States, is nothing to do with Cloverfield. However, the teaser has now been seen and /film had the following description.

The trailer lasts about one minute and a half.

It begins with the Green MPAA screen, followed by the Paramount Pictures logo. No Bad Robot at the header.

A train rushes by the screen. We notice that it has lots of cargo.

Text comes on the screen: “In 1979, The U.S. Air Force Closed A Section of AREA 51.”

We see the railroad crossing light blinking and ringing as the camera pans up we see some sort of light moving in the background. What is it? A UFO?

More Text: “All The Materials Were To Be Transported To A Secure Facility In Ohio.”

No, it appears to be the headlights of a yellow 1970’s truck, which skids in a 180 degree motion, and suddenly pulls onto the tracks.

Point of view of the truck heading into the light.

Black screen and white text: “From Producer Steve Spielberg”

We see the truck explode as it hits the train.

Then… the cargo train is heading towards the car explosion – BAM. It is wrecked, thrown from the tracks like a wild snake. The flaming metal body flipping towards the camera. Cars flying through the air. It is INTENSE.

Another black screen and the text: “And Director JJ Abrams”

The camera really slowly moves in on the wrecked pieces of the train, most of which is now just scrap metal. At least one car remains intact.

Black screen, white test: “Next Summer”

We see some sparks.

Black screen, white text: “It Arrives”

We pull up on one of the train cars with a US Airforce logo. The wheel on the door begins to spin out of control as we pull in closer. The wall of the door begins to bend like some huge force is punching it from the inside.

Cut to one second of a close up of an 8mm camera lens.

Cut to black. White text: “Super 8″

How does that grab you? Any ideas on where it could go from there?

The Killer Inside Me – Trailer for Winterbottom’s controversial adaption of the book

Posted by LiveFor on May 6, 2010

This adaption has been controversial due to the violence against women it portrays. Not sure why people have been surprised though as the book does deal with a bloke who is batshit nuts!

I’ve covered it quite a bit and it stars Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson, Ned Beatty, Bill Pullman and Elias Koteas

Based on the novel by legendary pulp writer Jim Thompson, Michael Winterbottom’s THE KILLER INSIDE ME tells the story of handsome, charming, unassuming small town sheriff’s deputy Lou Ford.

Lou has a bunch of problems. Woman problems. Law enforcement problems. An ever-growing pile of murder victims in his West Texas jurisdiction. And the fact he’s a sadist, a psychopath, a killer. Suspicion begins to fall on Lou, and it’s only a matter of time before he runs out of alibis.

But in Thompson’s savage, bleak, blacker than noir universe nothing is ever what it seems, and it turns out that the investigators pursuing him might have a secret of their own.
