Robert Downey Jr talks Gravity and Sherlock Holmes 2

Posted by LiveFor on May 4, 2010

Robert Downey Jr. has confirmed to MTV that Alfonso Cuaron’s 3D sci-fi-thriller “Gravity” is his next immediate film.

Filming will take place this Summer in London and then he will move on to the Sherlock Holmes sequel in Autumn with Guy Ritchie. That will start off in London, but will move to Europe. “Yes, I think we’ll be abroad. A bit of Paris, a bit of Switzerland by the end, if I’m not mistaken.”

No news on whether Rachel McAdams will be back for the sequel. “It’s hard to say. Because Irene Adler only appeared in one of the stories of Doyle’s reservoir of activities. But we’ll find out quickly.”

Who do you think should play Moriarty?

Piranha 3D – Official full trailer. How fast can you swim?

Posted by LiveFor on May 1, 2010

This does look like it is going to be hugely fun to watch when it gets released. A nice cheesy horror with a fantastic cast.

They’re back! Every year the population of sleepy Lake Havasu explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for a single, wild weekend – the 4th of July, a riot of sun, drunken fun and sex-crazed mayhem. But this year, theres something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers. Havasu sits in the crater formed by a prehistoric volcanic eruption, and when earth tremors tear open a crack in the lake floor, all hell breaks through. Piranhas – a million ravenous, razor-toothed monsters, unchanged since the dawn of time. Unstoppable killing machines acting blindly under one primeval impulse: to hunt down anything that moves and strip it to the raw, bleeding bone

The Smurfs – First look at Hank Azaria as Gargamel

Posted by LiveFor on May 1, 2010

Smurfin’ Hell! Still not excited about a Smurf’s film, but I think the kids will love it. They seem to have the look right for it so far.

In the 3D August 3, 2011 release, the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village and they tumble from their magical world into ours – in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.

The cast includes Neil Patrick Harris (Johan), Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara (Odile-Johan’s wife), Anton Yelchin (Clumsy Smurf), Jonathan Winters (Papa Smurf), Katy Perry (Smurfette), Alan Cumming (Gutsy Smurf), Fred Armisen (Brainy Smurf), George Lopez (Grouchy Smurf), and Paul Reubens (Jokey Smurf).

The Hole – Trailer for Joe Dante’s new film

Posted by LiveFor on April 30, 2010

Joe Dante…let’s see what films he has done Piranha, The Howling , Segment 3 of Twilight Zone: The Movie; Gremlins, Gremlins 2: The New Batch; Explorers, Innerspace, Amazon Women on the Moon, The ‘Burbs, Matinee, Small Soldiers. Quite a few good ones and some okay ones. This one looks like a good one.

Life couldnt possibly get worse, or so thought 17 year old Dane and his 10 year old brother Lucas, when their single mother Susan uproots them from New York City to the sleepy little town of Bensonville. For Dane the only exciting thing about their new town is the beautiful girl next door, Julie. With Susan spending more and more time at work, Dane and Lucas are left unattended to explore the depths of their eerie new residence.

With Dane paying more attention to Julie, he has far less time and patience for his little brother. But then everything changes when they find a sinister bottomless hole under a locked trap door in the basement. As the brothers experiment with the hole they realize that the cold pit goes on forever. They drop a nail and never hear it hit bottom. They lower a flashlight and a video camera and they get consumed by the darkness. Hoping for some answers about the houses past, Dane and Lucas bring Julie in on their new discovery. When the hole is exposed, evil is unleashed. With strange shadows lurking around every corner and past nightmares coming to life, the trio will have to come face to face their darkest fears to put an end to THE HOLE.

The Last Airbender – New trailer

Posted by LiveFor on April 24, 2010

Turns out this is going to be converted into 3D which sucks as until I heard that I was looking forward to seeing this. Clash of the Titans really put me off films shot in 2D then converted into 3D. However, M Night Shyamalan is going to oversee the conversion for this one so it may be slightly better.

Air, Water, Earth, Fire. Four nations tied by destiny when the Fire Nation launches a brutal war against the others. A century has passed with no hope in sight to change the path of this destruction. Caught between combat and courage, Aang (Noah Ringer) discovers he is the lone Avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. Aang teams with Katara (Nicola Peltz), a Waterbender, and her brother, Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), to restore balance to their war—torn world. Based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series, the live—action feature film The Last Airbender is the opening chapter in Aangs struggle.

UPDATED: Ridley Scott talks about the Alien prequel – Space Jockey, Giger and more

Posted by LiveFor on April 23, 2010

If you didn’t know (where have you been), Ridley Scott is returning to the daddy of all space horror films with his prequel to Alien.

Until now we knew nothing about the plot and it was all rumours and guesses. Now Scott has had a chat with MTV about what, and who, we will see in the film. Yes that does include the Space Jockey.

“It’s set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney [Weaver’s character Ellen Ripley], it’s fundamentally about going out to find out ‘Who the hell was that Space Jockey?’ The guy who was sitting in the chair in the alien vehicle — there was a giant fellow sitting in a seat on what looked to be either a piece of technology or an astronomer’s chair. Remember that?”

“[The film] is about the discussion of terraforming — taking planets and planetoids and balls of earth and trying to terraform, seed them with the possibilities of future life,” he explained. “Weyland hasn’t joined Yutani yet, so they go and see Weyland,” Scott said.

“Well, the main character [in the prequel] will be a woman, yeah,” he revealed. “We’re thinking it could go down that route, yeah. When I started the original ‘Alien,’ Ripley wasn’t a woman, it was a guy. During casting, we thought, ‘Why don’t we make it a woman?'”

Turns out he thinks the original Alien designs are looking a little worn out, but Scott is already giving serious thought to collaborating with Giger again on a redesign.

“Yeah, he’s still around. Once I get more serious and get going, and the big wheels start turning, we’ll certainly talk. And maybe we’ll come up with something completely different.”

Sounds promising doesn’t it and if it has just half the greatness of the original then we are in for a treat. Made up we will find out more about the Space Jockey.

UPDATE: Collider spoke to Ridley Scott who confirmed that there would be two prequels and that he would be shooting in 3D.

What do you want to see in an Alien prequel? Will Lance Henriksen be in it as a another Wayland character?

Flying Monkeys attack! Witches of Oz looks crazy

Posted by LiveFor on April 20, 2010

Yes Lance Henriksen is getting punched by a cat and flying monkeys are attacking New York in the 3D feature The Witches of Oz. I posted a trailer type thing back in March and new there is this new footage.

Still amazed at the cast they’ve got for this.

The film follows a grown-up Dorothy Gale, now a successful children’s book author, as she moves from Kansas to present day New York City. Dorothy discovers that her popular novels are based on suppressed childhood memories.

Directed by Leigh Scott. Starring Paulie Rojas, Billy Boyd, Eliza Swenson, Lance Henriksen, Jason Mewes, Jeffrey Combs, Mia Sara, Sean Astin, Christopher Lloyd.

Scorsese to shoot Hugo Cabret in 3D

Posted by LiveFor on April 14, 2010

Martin Scorsese’s next film is The Invention of Hugo Cabret based on the book by Brian Selznick. It also looks as if he is going to give this new fangled 3D thingy a go according to Variety.

Judging by the synopsis below it could well work as a 3D film and the fact Scorsese wants to shoot it that way means there will be no post conversion to mess things up.

ORPHAN, CLOCK KEEPER, AND THIEF, twelve-year-old Hugo lives in the walls of a busy Paris train station, where his survival depends on secrets and anonymity. But when his world suddenly interlocks with an eccentric girl and the owner of a small toy booth in the train station, Hugo’s undercover life, and his most precious secret, are put in jeopardy. A cryptic drawing, a treasured notebook, a stolen key, a mechanical man, and a hidden message all come together…in The Invention of Hugo Cabret.

This 526-page book is told in both words and pictures. The Invention of Hugo Cabret is not exactly a novel, and it’s not quite a picture book, and it’s not really a graphic novel, or a flip book, or a movie, but a combination of all these things. Each picture (there are nearly three hundred pages of pictures!) takes up an entire double page spread, and the story moves forward because you turn the pages to see the next moment unfold in front of you.

The film stars Asa Butterfield (The Boy in the Striped Pajamas), Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass), Ben Kingsley, and Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat). It is due for release on 9th December 2011.
