Captain Jack Harkness in Desperate Housewives

Posted by LiveFor on April 17, 2010

I knew it was happening but here is Torchwood’s John Barrowman in Desperate Housewives. Never thought I’d have pics from that show on the site, but I do like Torchwood and my Mum and Wife do like a bit of Barrowman.

Apparently Angie (Drea De Mateo) has been on the run and hiding her son from evil ex, Patrick Logan (John Barrowman). Now you know. Would be great if they actually tied it into Torchwood and it was Captain Jack in deep cover.

I wonder if Barrowman will manage to find a way to kiss a bloke in the series. He usually does!

Torchwood – Fox developing US version and John Barrowman may star

Posted by LiveFor on January 20, 2010

Not sure how I feel about the news that THR recently posted.

The project is from BBC Worldwide Prods., with original series creator Russell Davies writing the script.

A more straight-faced spinoff of “Doctor Who,” “Torchwood” is about a covert group that investigates and fights alien activity. Two series aired domestically on BBC America as well as last year’s well reviewed stand-alone miniseries, “Children of Earth,” which broke all ratings records for the network. (If you’re a fan of serious sci fi such as “Battlestar Galatica” and haven’t seen “Children of Earth,” rent it. You don’t need to know anything about the series. And I know the previews for “Torchwood” can look silly. Trust me, it’s terrific. Like “24” with aliens).

Unlike U.S. adaptations that have gone awry, “Torchwood” fans can take comfort that the original producing team is on board. In addition to Davies, exec producers include Davies’ producing partner Julie Gardner (former head of drama at BBC Wales for the show’s first season) and Jane Tranter (another BBC vet, now exec VP programming and production at BBC Worldwide Prods. in the U.S.).

Also, some of the current cast — most likely John Barrowman, who plays the immortal Capt. Jack Harkness — might star if Fox orders “Torchwood” to pilot.

As for the new show’s plot, the U.S. version will contain a global story line compared to the more localized sensibility of the first two BBC seasons.
Tranter might try to reboot “Doctor Who” for U.S. audiences while departing “Doctor Who” star David Tennant stars in NBC’s pilot “Rex Is Not Your Lawyer.” “Torchwood” (which is an anagram of “Doctor Who”) debuted in 2006 on BBC 3 and set ratings records, then was moved to BBC 1. Russell also reinvented “Doctor Who” in 2003 and was writer-creator of the series “Queer as Folk.”

I am really hoping that this is not going to be a reboot of Torchwood, but instead be the next instalment of the Torchwood tale. After the devastatingly amazing Children of Earth it would be a shame if they just go back to the beginning. I am assuming it will be a follow on with a more global feel as having Barrowman back as Captain Jack and Russell T Davis writing it certainly seems that way. Imagine what they could do with a US sized TV budget.

However, one of the main character points of Captain Jack Harkness is his omnisexuality and that he will sleep with just about anything and anyone – in the UK version his main relationship was with a man, Ianto Jones. Would Fox be comfortable with keeping that aspect of the show?

As for the possible Americanised reboot of Doctor Who well I am just not sure about that at all. Maybe it is just me but I always feel as if Doctor Who is a very British kind of thing. The TARDIS is a very British police box and the Paul McGann Doctor was set in America for his one fateful visual outing and that wasn’t too hot. Is it just me? What do any American readers think about the news? If there was an American version of the Doctor who could play him / her? What on earth would the TARDIS be in that version?

How do you feel about Torchwood going global? Would you be okay with a totally new version or would you want it to carry on from the miniseries? How is it going to effect the UK version if Captain Jack is in the States?

Just imagine if Torchwood or the Doctor had cameos in Fringe, Lost, Flash Forward etc.

Doctor Who – Cast list for David Tennant’s last two episodes

Posted by LiveFor on December 3, 2009

The Doctor as David Tennant is coming to the end of his journey. The End of Time is showing in the UK on Christmas day.

Now the cast list for the two parter is out on imdb (so it may not be totally correct) and it makes for some interesting reading. Spoilers ahoy!

John Barrowman (Captain Jack)
Brian Cox (The Elder of the Ood)
Timothy Dalton (The Narrator)
Lachele Carl (Trinity Wells)
Jessica Hynes (Verity Newman)
David Harewood (Joshua Naismith)
Jacqueline King (Sylvia Noble)
Alexandra Moen (Lucy Saxon)
Sylvia Seymour (Miss Trefusis)
Catherine Tate (Donna Noble)
Russell Tovey (Midshipman Frame)
John Simm (The Master)
Jimmy Vee (Monster)
June Whitfield (Minnie Hopper)
Paul Kasey (Ood Sigma)
Silas Carson (Ood voice)

Part Two also has:

Roger Bailey (Time Lord)
Teresa Banham (Governor)
Brid Brennan (Visionary)
Camille Caduri (Jackie Tyler)
Tommy Knight (Luke Smith)
Billie Piper (Rose Tyler)
Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith)
Matt Smith (The Doctor)
Penelope Wilton (Harriet Jones)

What have we learnt from this then? Well lots of familiar faces – Captain Jack, Harriet Jones, Rose & Jackie Tyler, The Master, Donna Noble.

Of particular interest are characters such as Verity Newman (Jessica Hynes). She also played Joan Redfer the character who was engaged to the Doctor when he went human and saw his book The Journal of Impossible Things. Apparantly Verity is a modern day author who has written the very same book – reincarnation maybe?

Now I’m not sure whether the Doctor will be revisiting all these people to right wrongs when he last met them or if it will be flashbacks – as it is Doctor Who it will probably be the former.

We’ll also get out first glimpse of Matt Smith as the new Doctor and a Time Lord!

Any thoughts or ideas as to what we may see in the final moments of Tennant’s Doctor? I for one am going to miss him.

Captain Jack as Captain America

Posted by LiveFor on July 30, 2009

The Avengers film draws ever closer and we have our Iron Man, Thor, Nick Fury, and a few others. However, there is still no news on who will play Captain America.

Worryingly Will Smith’s name keeps getting bandied about. Don’t get me wrong, I like a bit of Big Willy stylee (hmm a dodgy sentence if ever there was one!) but they should stick with the Steve Rogers set out in the comic. However, another actor, who would agree with the sentiments of my previous sentence but in a whole different way, has said they’d like to give it a go.

During the BBC “Torchwood: Children of Earth” mini-series panel at Comic-Con last weekend, actor John Barrowman revealed that he would like the chance play Captain America in The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers films.

“You know what I want to play? Captain America,” he said to the wildly receptive crowd, before adding that it “so won’t happen.”

Barrowman plays the fixed point in time, Captain Jack Harkness and is pretty good at it.

The question is would he make a good Cap? To be honest I think he would. He’s got the looks (my wife and mother love him as do many other men and women), he’s a bit of an unknown for the mainstream audience (only fans of TV sci-fi, musical theatre and 1980’s Saturday Morning Kids TV would know him) which would make them buy into him as the character rather than as a big name playing a part. Although Kevin Feige has said they are looking for a star with international appeal.

Of course, there would be none of the shenanigans that Captain Jack gets up to if he took on the role of Steve Rogers.

I seriously doubt that this will come to pass or that he will even make it to an audition, just one of those things that the Comic Con throws up once in a while. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there are people working away on making vids and pics of Barrowman as Captain America right now.

Would Barrowman be a good Captain America?

Torchwood – Children of Earth – What did you think?

Posted by LiveFor on July 6, 2009

BBC 1 had the first episode of the new Torchwood series Children of Earth. It was an hour long and it is on all week for a total of 5 episodes.

I thought it was brilliant. It had a great hook, lots of character building, twists, turns and cliffhangers. I won’t go into anymore detail here, but I am curious as to what you all thought of it.

It’s now up to you to post your thoughts, theories, views, ideas, rants, good bits, bad bits, is John Barrowman to good looking to live etc in the comments below.

The comments can contain spoilers so you have been warned. You can watch the first episode on BBC iPlayer.
