The Random – Ant-Man, DiCaprio maybe Hoover and Travis McGee, Joss Whedon on The Avengers, Harold & Kumar 3, Soderbergh’s Contagion

Posted by LiveFor on April 1, 2010

It is April 1st so it may be possible one or two of these tales have fooled me.

– Edgar Wright and Pixar may be teaming up to bring Marvel’s miniscule Avenger, Ant-Man, to the big screen according to JoBlo.

– Leonardo DiCaprio may play J Edgar Hoover in Spielberg’s biopic of the FBI chief. The actor is also in talks to play Travis McGee, the detective beach bum, in an adaption of John D MacDonalds book, The Deep Blue GoodBye. Oliver Stone is down to direct.

– Joss Whedon (Buffy, Dollhouse, Firefly) may be on the shortlist to direct The Avengers movie. Shiny! That would be very cool. First Showing have more.

– Kal Penn may be back for the third Harold and Kumar film – A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas. Apparently his job at the White House is almost at an end.

The Playlist have had a look at the script for Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion.- – ”…if you took the breadth and scope of “Traffic” or “Syriana,” tidied up the writing, and found a subject matter that terrified you relentlessly for two hours, you’d have something close to Contagion…clearly done an enormous amount of research, and it’s thoroughly, horrifyingly conceivable throughout, but it’s also as much about the way that information can spread virally in the Web 2.0 age, as it is about the spread of the virus. Burns ties these dual themes together in the final pages, the two dovetailing in a hugely satisfying way.”

If Buzz Lightyear was real

Posted by LiveFor on February 25, 2010

How good is this? A great piece of art work by an artist called Raoni Nery. A great look at what Buzz Lightyear from Pixar’s Toy Story would look like if he was a person.

Toy Story 3 – Brilliant new trailer

Posted by LiveFor on February 11, 2010

The creators of the beloved “Toy Story” films re-open the toy box and bring moviegoers back to the delightful world of Woody, Buzz and our favorite gang of toy characters in TOY STORY 3. Woody and Buzz had accepted that their owner Andy would grow up someday, but what happens when that day arrives? In the third installment, Andy is preparing to depart for college, leaving his loyal toys troubled about their uncertain future. Lee Unkrich (co-director of “Toy Story 2″ and “Finding Nemo”) directs this highly anticipated film, and Michael Arndt, the Academy Award®-winning screenwriter of “Little Miss Sunshine,” brings his unique talents and comedic sensibilities to the proceedings. Toy Story 3 will be presented in Disney Digital 3DTM in select theaters.

John Carter of Mars – Malcolm in the Middle’s Dad joins Pixar’s first live action movie

Posted by LiveFor on January 14, 2010

Bryan Cranston (Malcolm in the Middle, Breaking Bad) has joined the cast of Walt Disney’s “John Carter of Mars.” He will play a Civil War colonel who comes into conflict with Carter.

Andrew Stanton is directing the production, which goes before cameras next week in Utah.

The film also stars Lynn Collins (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, True Blood), Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton (In America, Control), Dominic West (300, Chicago), Polly Walker (Patriot Games), Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man 3, Sideways, George of the Jungle), Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes, RockNRolla, Kick-Ass), and James Purefoy (Ironclad, Solomon Kane).

The adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs book series centers on Civil War veteran John Carter (Kitsch), who is mysteriously transported to Mars, where he discovers a lush, wildly diverse planet whose main inhabitants are 12-foot tall green barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Dejah Thoris (Collins), Princess of Helium, who is in desperate need of a savior and Tars Tarkas (Dafoe), a brutal and mirthless green Martian warrior, who possesses the unusual characteristic to feel love and empathy.

Church plays Tal Hajus – “an ambitious and vicious Thark warrior who is biding his time to be a ruler.” Strong plays Matai Shang, a godlike leader of the Holy Therns – “that ancient cult which for countless ages has been credited with holding the secret of life and death in their impregnable fastnesses upon the hither slopes of the Mountains of Otz.”

Purefoy will be Kantos Kan, the captain of a Helium warship. Morton will play Sola, the daughter of Tars Tarkas, who must hide her softer side from her warmongering race. West plays Sab Than, prince of the Zodangans who believes he is entitled to rule Mars. Walker plays Sarkoja, a merciless, tyrannical Thark.”

Stanton wrote the screenplay with Mark Andrews. Jim Morris, who produced “WALL-E,” and Colin Wilson are producing “Carter.”

As Cranston is playing a Civil War colonel I don’t imagine him being in the film that much. Presumably near the beginning before Carter gets to Mars.

The movie will be a hybrid of live action and CGI and should be out in 2012.

This may be Pixar’s first foray into the world of live action, but as all of their films have had the story and characters come first I reckon we will be in for something amazing. Plus they have got one hell of a cast for the trilogy.
